A car struck rugby fans in the Australian city of Newcastle, injuring 10 people.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reported, citing SBS News.
The crash occurred at about 9:30 a.m. local time (03:30 Baku time) in the Wallsend area, where fans had gathered by the roadside to farewell the Newcastle Knights rugby team before its final match. Ten ambulances and three helicopters were dispatched after the car struck people.
The New South Wales Ambulance Service confirmed that 10 people were injured. A 5-year-old girl and a 67-year-old man are reportedly in critical condition.
New South Wales Premier Chris Minns described the incident as “heartbreaking.” “It’s heartbreaking to see fans who had gathered to farewell their team ahead of the final caught up in such a terrible incident,” he said.
The Newcastle Knights said the team bus had been diverted from its planned route because of a “major incident.”
