Ronald Araujo left Barcelona during the summer transfer window and joined Liverpool on loan. Under the agreement, the English club has the right to sign the 27-year-old defender permanently for €55 million.
“Operative Information Center-OMM”, citing foreign media, reports that Barcelona is monitoring the Uruguayan footballer’s performances but has no plans to bring him back.
Barcelona head coach Hans-Dieter Flick prefers defenders with different playing styles and does not rely on Araujo.
Barcelona expects €55 million
Barcelona’s main interest regarding Araujo is for Liverpool to activate the purchase option and pay €55 million. The Catalan club is already counting on receiving the fee as it plans its future activities.
Liverpool is reportedly satisfied with Araujo’s performances. The defender is said to have been able to demonstrate his best qualities thanks to the conditions provided to him in England.
A loan with an option to buy allows a club to assess a player during a temporary spell before deciding whether to make the transfer permanent. If Liverpool activates the clause, Barcelona would receive the agreed fee while Araujo would continue his career in the English Premier League.
