Construction is continuing on a new road in Baku intended to ease traffic congestion around the Ganjlik, Narimanov and Koroglu metro stations.
The Azerbaijan State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads (AAYDA) provided the information to “Operative Information Center-OMM”.
The project involves a 3.9-kilometer road being built from Hasan Aliyev Street to Koroglu metro station, running parallel to Ziya Bunyadov Avenue, the agency said.
The project, implemented by AAYDA, aims to create an alternative connection between key transport arteries in the capital, distribute vehicle traffic more efficiently and reduce pressure on existing roads.
Once the road opens, traffic is expected to improve on Heydar Aliyev and Ziya Bunyadov avenues, while congestion around the Ganjlik, Narimanov and Koroglu metro stations is also expected to ease.
The project includes the construction of five road interchanges, four tunnels and three underground pedestrian crossings.
According to AAYDA, 62.8% of the overall construction work has been completed. Work is 66.46% complete on the tunnels and 82% complete on the underground pedestrian crossings.
Utility relocation and other work related to construction of the road are also continuing.
The new road will expand travel options between different parts of the capital and help manage traffic more efficiently across the existing street and road network.
The project is being implemented under the “State Program for the Improvement of Transport Infrastructure in Baku and Surrounding Areas for 2025–2030.”
