Cleaning, landscaping, and preparation works have been completed at free public beaches in Baku’s Shikh, Goradil, Novkhani, Buzovna, Pirshaghi, and Sahil settlements. These beaches, established on previously neglected coastal areas through the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder of the IDEA Public Union, are now fully operational for the summer season.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the facilities were made ready for the beach season, which officially commenced on May 15. To ensure the comfort and safety of residents, the Ministry of Emergency Situations has installed rescue stations, while the areas are equipped with sunshades, changing rooms, showers, sanitary facilities, gazebos, and playgrounds. Special attention has been paid to accessibility, with the installation of ramps and dedicated paths for persons with disabilities, along with designated parking spaces near the beach entrances.
The IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Action) Public Union, founded in 2011, focuses on environmental protection and sustainable development in Azerbaijan. These exemplary public beaches aim to provide high-quality, free-of-charge recreation options while promoting ecological and social responsibility among the public. The initiative serves as part of a broader effort to restore the Caspian Sea coastline and enhance the urban environment of the capital, Baku, ensuring that all residents and visitors have access to clean and safe leisure zones.
