Preparations are continuing at a high level for the first FIFA U-15 World Cup and festival, which will take place in Baku from October 22 to 30.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that the event will be organized in accordance with President Ilham Aliyev’s order on measures related to hosting the first FIFA U-15 boys’ World Cup and festival in Azerbaijan in 2026.
Work at the Hovsan Olympic Sports Complex, where most of the matches will be held, is nearing completion. Nearly 1,000 matches are scheduled to take place on 10 football pitches at the newly built complex.
Nearly 4,000 young footballers, coaches and officials representing FIFA member associations from about 190 countries are expected to take part in the tournament.
A few days ago, FIFA President Gianni Infantino inspected preparations at the Hovsan Olympic Sports Complex during a visit to Azerbaijan. He was briefed on organizational matters, infrastructure projects and security measures. Infantino praised the extensive work completed in a short time and the country’s level of readiness for the tournament.
The opening match and final of the tournament will be held at the Baku Crystal Hall.
The new football infrastructure established in Hovsan is expected to support the development of children’s and youth football in the future. The event will bring together young players and football officials from across the world, while the facilities will remain available to help develop the sport in Azerbaijan.
