An event marking the 108th anniversary of Baku’s liberation from Bolshevik-Dashnak forces on Sept. 15, 1918, has been held at the Azerbaijan War History Museum.
The Ministry of Defense told the "Operative Information Center-OMM" about the event.
Cadets of the Baku Military College of the National Defense University, museum staff and members of the public attended the event.
Addressing the gathering, Elshad Panahov, head of the Azerbaijan War History Museum and a reserve colonel, said 1918 held a special place in Azerbaijan’s statehood history. He said the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, after facing extremely difficult challenges, achieved a major historic victory when the Caucasus Islamic Army, commanded by Nuru Pasha, cleared Baku of the Centrocaspian Dictatorship, Bolshevik-Dashnak and British forces.
Other speakers also addressed the subject in detail and answered questions from participants.
The event concluded with patriotic songs performed by soloists from the Hazi Aslanov Army Ideological and Cultural Center.
The liberation of Baku on Sept. 15, 1918, was a decisive episode in the early history of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, established in 1918. The operation was carried out by the Caucasus Islamic Army, formed with the participation of Azerbaijani and Ottoman forces, and is commemorated annually in Azerbaijan.
