An investigation is underway by the prosecutor’s office of Baku’s Khatai district into the death of a minor on September 13.
The information was provided to the "Operative Information Center-OMM" by Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General’s Office.
A preliminary investigation determined that the teenager jumped from a high-rise building in an apparent attempt to take their own life.
Procedural actions carried out so far have established that the teenager encountered harmful content and calls on the "Roblox" gaming platform that negatively affected their psychological state and led to the act, the statement said.
Investigators are examining all the causes and circumstances of the incident, including the internet resources accessed through the electronic devices used by the teenager, the nature of the content encountered and its possible impact on the teenager’s psychological state and behavior.
Additional information will be provided to the public once the investigation is completed.
The Prosecutor General’s Office described the incident as serious and said it highlights the need for greater attention to dangers children may encounter online and on social networks, particularly content and calls that may negatively affect their psychological state and behavior.
It is important for parents to pay particular attention to their children’s use of the internet and social platforms, strengthen monitoring of the electronic devices and platforms they use and the content they access, and track their online activity using the security features of electronic devices.
It is also important to monitor changes in children’s behavior and daily habits, identify in a timely manner content and calls that may be troubling or influencing them, and establish open and trusting communication with children in such cases.
"Parents should bear in mind that not all content on the internet and social networks is harmless or intended for entertainment. Content that is inappropriate for a child’s age, exerts a psychological influence or may encourage dangerous behavior can pose a serious risk to children’s lives. Therefore, ensuring their safety in the virtual environment must be accompanied by parental supervision, careful observation and ongoing communication.
The Prosecutor General’s Office calls on parents and all members of society to approach children’s safety in the virtual environment responsibly and to take timely measures to protect them from harmful content and influences," the statement said.
