Azerbaijan’s trade turnover with Central Asian countries increased by more than 50 percent last year.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev announced this while addressing the eighth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Azerbaijan and Central Asia in Turkmenbashi.
“More than 400 companies with capital from Central Asian countries are actively operating in our country today. In recent years, Azerbaijan has established joint investment funds with Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. The capital of each of these funds is measured in hundreds of millions of dollars,” the head of state said.
President Ilham Aliyev said the funds should be used more actively, first and foremost, to implement joint projects, establish new production facilities and expand industrial cooperation.
“It is important not only to increase mutual trade, but also to invest and produce together and enter foreign markets,” he added.
The Consultative Meeting brings together the leaders of Azerbaijan and Central Asian states to discuss regional cooperation. Trade, investment and industrial collaboration are among the areas that can strengthen economic ties between the participating countries.
