The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan has issued a public safety advisory in response to unstable weather conditions expected in the coming days.

According to the information provided by the Ministry's press service to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the National Hydrometeorology Service has forecasted heavy rainfall, short-term flooding in certain mountain rivers, lightning, and intermittent strong winds. In light of these forecasts, the Ministry of Emergency Situations is reiterating essential safety protocols to ensure public protection.

“To protect against potential floods and flash floods caused by heavy precipitation, citizens are advised to stay away from high-risk areas and, if caught in such a situation, immediately seek higher ground. Furthermore, given the summer season and the popularity of beaches, we remind the public that entering the sea during windy weather is dangerous. Operators of small vessels must also adhere to the prohibition on sailing during such weather conditions,” the statement noted.

The Ministry further advised that during strong winds, individuals should avoid standing near temporary structures, billboards, power lines, or tall trees. Given that strong winds complicate firefighting efforts, strict adherence to fire safety regulations is critical during this period.

To mitigate risks associated with lightning, the Ministry recommends disconnecting electrical appliances, avoiding the use of telephones, and staying away from power lines, lightning rods, and antennas while outdoors. If caught in a storm, individuals should seek shelter in lower-lying areas and avoid tall trees. Drivers are advised to stop their vehicles, close the windows, and wait for the storm to pass.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations emphasizes that ignoring these safety rules poses a direct threat to life. In case of an emergency, citizens should immediately call the 112 hotline.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations is the primary government body in Azerbaijan responsible for civil defense, disaster management, and fire safety, frequently issuing such advisories to mitigate risks during extreme weather events.
