The Azerbaijani delegation that competed at the World Goju-Ryu Karate Championships in Pune, India, has returned home. The athletes were welcomed at Heydar Aliyev International Airport.
Vusal Abdullazade, an assistant to the president of the Azerbaijan Karate Federation, as well as athletes’ family members, relatives and media representatives attended the welcome ceremony.
Azerbaijan’s medal winners
Azerbaijani athletes won 12 medals at the eighth world championships, held from October 7 to 10. Ten medals came in individual events and two in team competitions.
Ismayil Isayev, Chingizkhan Jafarli, Ali Ahmadov, Aydin Rzayev and Anar Sadigov became world champions in individual events. Adnan Abushov won silver, while Ali Abdullayev, Mahammad Jahangirov, Vladimir Grimzin and Gadir Huseynov took bronze.
Azerbaijan’s team of athletes aged 12-13 won the championship, while the team of 10-11-year-olds took silver. Nurlan Guliyev led the delegation. The athletes competed under coaches Roya Safarova and Elmin Isayev.
