Azerbaijan's Electronic Security Service (ESS) has urged citizens to remain highly vigilant against new cyber fraud tactics aimed at stealing biometric data in public spaces.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, cybercriminals often approach individuals in public areas under various pretexts, asking to use their mobile phones. During these interactions, hidden video calls, screen recordings, or other recording features may be active on the fraudster's device, capturing the victim's voice, facial features, and even touch data for malicious purposes.

To protect against these international cyber threats, the Electronic Security Service recommends several preventive cyber hygiene measures:

  • Do not touch the mobile phones of strangers;
  • Do not perform any confirmation operations on unknown devices;
  • Be extremely cautious in situations requiring camera or voice verification;
  • Do not share personal and biometric data with third parties;
  • Inform elderly family members and minors about these fraudulent methods.

Citizens who encounter suspicious situations are requested to report them to the relevant authorities or contact the Electronic Security Service via the "1654" hotline or email.

In recent years, Azerbaijan has significantly strengthened its cybersecurity infrastructure to counter global digital threats. The Electronic Security Service regularly conducts public awareness campaigns to enhance digital literacy and protect citizens from sophisticated social engineering and identity theft schemes.
