The Main State Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has issued an urgent appeal to moped drivers regarding upcoming changes to road safety regulations in Azerbaijan. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, starting from March 26, drivers will be strictly required to possess an "A1" category driving license, a vehicle registration certificate, and a state registration plate to operate mopeds on public roads.
The official statement emphasized that the deadline for compliance is approaching rapidly. "Taking into account that there is little time left until the specified date, individuals wishing to drive mopeds are advised to apply in advance to the registration and examination points in their respective regions of registration," the department noted. The Ministry of Internal Affairs further clarified that all procedures are being implemented in a uniform manner to ensure that citizens receive efficient and equal service across the country.
The Main State Traffic Police Department urged all moped operators to fulfill their legal obligations promptly to avoid administrative liability once the new enforcement period begins. This initiative is part of a broader effort by the government of Azerbaijan to enhance road safety and regulate the increasing number of small engine vehicles in urban centers like Baku. By integrating mopeds into the national registration system, authorities aim to improve traffic management and ensure that all operators meet the necessary qualification standards for public safety.
