Azerbaijan will conduct a nationwide population census in 2029, according to a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev.
As reported by the Operative Information Center-OMM, the census is scheduled to take place from October 1 to October 31, 2029, reflecting the demographic situation as of October 1 of that year.
Under the presidential decree, the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan is tasked with the comprehensive preparation, execution, data processing, and publication of the census results. The Cabinet of Ministers has been instructed to approve a detailed action plan for the census within two months. This plan includes measures to integrate data from relevant government information systems into the State Statistical Committee’s database, ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of the demographic assessment.
National censuses are vital instruments for state planning, allowing the government to evaluate socio-economic development, housing needs, and infrastructure requirements. By gathering precise data on the population's composition, employment, and living conditions, the Republic of Azerbaijan ensures that its long-term strategic development programs are aligned with the actual needs of its citizens.
