Water management authorities in Azerbaijan have switched to an enhanced work regime due to intensive rainfall affecting the country. Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency has mobilized resources to mitigate the impact of the weather conditions.
According to the agency, the absence of drainage systems in certain areas has forced rainwater into sewage lines, leading to network overloads and difficulties in water transportation. Emergency brigades have been deployed to address problems in areas lacking centralized water and sewage systems. Continuous work is being carried out to drain accumulated water, clear lines, and redirect flows into existing networks. Rain collectors and carrier lines are being regularly inspected, with specialized machinery used to clear blockages.
The Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency was established to ensure the efficient management of water resources and the reliable supply of drinking water across the Republic of Azerbaijan. During periods of heavy precipitation, the agency's rapid response teams prioritize the prevention of flooding in urban infrastructure and residential areas. Officials stated that all local water departments have expanded their activities on a shift basis, and operations will continue until all issues are fully resolved.
