“The State Agency for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control has rejected Aztelekom LLC’s application to increase the minimum internet speed and the corresponding tariff.”
Information technology expert Osman Gunduz made the statement, Operative Information Center-OMM reports.
He noted that more than 90% of users currently subscribe to internet packages with speeds of 100 Mbps or less. He said a higher minimum speed was not necessary for all subscribers and stressed the importance of allowing users to choose between packages.
Internet tariffs were changed on August 15, 2024. At the time, the minimum package was raised from 40 Mbps at 18 manats to 100 Mbps at 25 manats. As a result, the minimum monthly payment increased by about 40%.
The expert added that providing high-quality, high-speed internet across the country was important, but should not be achieved by raising the minimum tariff for everyone. He said preserving the affordability of the service and allowing citizens to choose among different packages were essential.
