An attempt to smuggle 7.5 kilograms of narcotics from Iran into Azerbaijan has been successfully thwarted by border authorities.
This information was provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the State Border Service of Azerbaijan.
According to the official report, the incident occurred within the service area of the "Horadiz" border detachment of the Border Troops. During a coordinated operational and military measure, authorities detained an Iranian citizen, identified as Agapur Huseyn Novruz (born in 1975), who was attempting to illegally transport 7 kilograms and 490 grams of marijuana, along with 1,810 units of the psychotropic drug Methadone M-40, across the border.
Operational and investigative measures regarding the case are currently ongoing.
Azerbaijan frequently conducts enhanced security operations along its southern border to combat transnational organized crime and drug trafficking. The State Border Service maintains a high level of vigilance in these regions, as the border with Iran has historically been a transit route for illicit substances, necessitating constant monitoring and strict enforcement of national security protocols.
