Azerbaijan plans to increase its natural gas production to meet growing demand and fulfill international commitments. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, President Ilham Aliyev made this statement during a joint press conference with the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa.
The head of state emphasized that the expansion of blue fuel production is a key priority for the national energy strategy. President Ilham Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan remains a reliable energy partner for Europe, highlighting that the ongoing cooperation with the European Union serves the interests of both regional energy security and economic stability. The discussions between the leaders focused on the strategic partnership and the technical details of increasing export volumes through existing infrastructure.
Azerbaijan has emerged as a critical alternative source for Europe's energy diversification, particularly through the Southern Gas Corridor. Since the commencement of commercial gas deliveries to Europe in late 2020, the country has consistently scaled up its export capacity. This planned increase in production aligns with the memorandum of understanding on a strategic partnership in the field of energy signed between Azerbaijan and the European Commission, which aims to double the volume of gas exports to the European market by 2027.
