Dağ çaylarında sel təhlükəsi: Xəbərdarlıq

Heavy rainfall, accompanied by lightning, is expected in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula from the evening of June 27 through the morning of June 28.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the National Hydrometeorological Service has issued a warning indicating that rainfall may intensify significantly during the night hours. Temperatures are expected to drop slightly on June 28.

Unstable weather conditions, characterized by intermittent precipitation, are forecast to persist across Azerbaijan until the evening of June 28. In certain regions, the rainfall is expected to be intense, with potential for thunderstorms and hail.

Authorities have warned that water levels in major rivers, including the Kura, Araz, and Ganikh, are expected to rise. Furthermore, there is a high risk of short-term flash floods and mudslides in some mountain rivers, as well as potential localized flooding in vulnerable areas.

Context: Azerbaijan's geography, featuring the Greater and Lesser Caucasus mountain ranges, makes the country susceptible to seasonal flash flooding, particularly during periods of intense, concentrated rainfall. The National Hydrometeorological Service regularly monitors river basins to mitigate risks to infrastructure and agricultural lands, issuing timely warnings to ensure public safety during adverse weather events.
