Non-compliance has been identified in “Aranami Samurai Salt” branded seasoned sea salt products imported from Japan.
The Operative Information Center-OMM was informed of this by the Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency.
Laboratory testing of samples taken from the product batch found that the iodine content was below the required standard.
Relevant measures were taken in accordance with the law, and 22.6 kilograms of the products deemed unfit for consumption were destroyed.
Iodized salt is subject to food safety requirements because adequate iodine intake is important for the normal functioning of the thyroid gland. Food safety authorities routinely test imported products for compliance with established standards.
