E. Valiyev has been detained on suspicion of abusing citizens’ trust and misappropriating 32,128 manats in total.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs told the “Operative Information Center-OMM”.
According to the ministry, Valiyev took 1,728 manats from one citizen after promising to arrange a job in Switzerland for the person’s child. He also received 3,400 manats from another individual, allegedly promising to provide a house and a “golf cart” at a recreation complex. Valiyev additionally obtained a “golf cart” worth 19,000 manats after promising to make the payment later, then sold it to another person for 8,000 manats without the owner’s consent.
Investigators also found photomontages on his mobile phone showing him alongside well-known individuals. It was established that Valiyev used the images to portray himself as a person with extensive connections and, by this method, gained the victims’ trust.
Valiyev was detained as a suspect and brought under investigation under relevant articles of the Criminal Code. Investigative measures into the facts are ongoing.
In Azerbaijan, fraud cases involving promises of employment or other services are investigated under the Criminal Code. Authorities have not yet disclosed the total number of people who may have been affected in this case.
