Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov has held a meeting with Magdalena Grono, the European Union's Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan reported that the discussions centered on the current state and future development prospects of relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union (EU), as well as key issues on the regional agenda.

The parties emphasized that the existing political dialogue, high-level reciprocal visits, and intensive contacts contribute significantly to the development of Azerbaijan-EU relations. In this context, the importance of the visit by the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, to Azerbaijan earlier this year was highlighted as a key factor in deepening mutual understanding and advancing the cooperation agenda.

The two sides reviewed the current state of collaboration across political, economic, energy, and transport-communication sectors, while also evaluating previously reached agreements. The European Union remains a crucial partner for Azerbaijan, particularly in the energy sector, where the Southern Gas Corridor plays a vital role in European energy security.

During the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov briefed the EU representative on the latest developments regarding the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the ongoing peace agenda. He underscored the necessity of utilizing current opportunities to finalize the peace process, fulfilling obligations in a timely manner, and strengthening mutual trust.

The parties also stressed the importance of continuing cooperation within international organizations, as well as maintaining dialogue and consultations on issues of mutual interest. The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on other topical issues on the regional and international agenda.
