Fourteen members of the "Strong Armenia" party, led by Samvel Karapetyan, have been detained in Armenia as part of a criminal investigation into allegations of election-related bribery and vote-buying.
The Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Armenian media reports, notes that the country's Anti-Corruption Committee confirmed the detentions following a series of targeted operations. According to official statements, law enforcement agencies conducted extensive searches on the morning of April 16 at the offices and private residences of party members in the city of Artashat, leading to the subsequent arrests.
The Anti-Corruption Committee stated that further details regarding the investigation into voting machinations will be provided as the case progresses. This crackdown comes amid heightened scrutiny of political financing and electoral integrity in Armenia, where judicial authorities have recently intensified efforts to combat systemic corruption and illegal influence during political campaigns.
