Armenia has no intention of resuming its participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and is prepared for the possibility of being removed from the alliance. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Armenian media, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made these remarks during a session in the country's parliament.
"I can state clearly that we will not resume our activities in the CSTO. Discussions are ongoing within that organization, and its charter also provides for the possibility of a member state being excluded. If they decide to exclude Armenia from the CSTO, I would be very pleased. This would free us from the dilemma of whether or not to leave. Our interest in the CSTO has been exhausted," Pashinyan added.
The CSTO, a Russia-led military alliance, has faced significant internal strain in recent years, particularly regarding its security commitments in the South Caucasus. Armenia's decision to distance itself from the bloc marks a significant shift in its foreign policy and regional security orientation, as Yerevan seeks to diversify its strategic partnerships amid evolving geopolitical realities in the region.
