Clarification has been provided on whether people with spinal curvature are fit for military service.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that the State Service for Mobilization and Conscription has issued information on the matter.
“The stages of scoliosis and kyphosis are determined from X-rays by calculating the Cobb angles established by V.D. Chaklin. Citizens diagnosed with first-degree scoliosis (a Cobb angle of up to 10°), or first- or second-degree kyphosis (a Cobb angle of up to 50°), are considered fit for military service when called up or when they volunteer for service.
It should be noted that postural scoliosis—a simple (non-structural) sideways curvature of the spine, usually to the left, that straightens when the head is pulled upward or the person lies down, with no fixed rotation detected when bending forward—is not considered true structural scoliosis and is deemed compatible with military service. The curvature also straightens on an anteroposterior spinal X-ray taken while the person is lying down.”
