Former Manchester United player Ander Herrera has discussed the conflict between the club’s former head coach Jose Mourinho and midfielder Paul Pogba. Herrera said the breakdown in their relationship may have stemmed from clashing egos, Pogba’s transfer fee and Mourinho’s expectations of him.
According to Herrera, Mourinho may not have been patient enough in his dealings with Pogba. Although both sides tried to repair their relationship, their efforts were unsuccessful.
Herrera recalled one match during which the conflict intensified. Mourinho believed Pogba had posted on social media while the team was trailing. The following day, Pogba told his teammates that he had prepared the post before the match but it was published after he connected to the internet, 30 to 40 minutes later.
Herrera described the incident as a misunderstanding but said he believed it was too late by then to restore their relationship. He shared his views in a video published on the “Rio Ferdinand Presents” YouTube channel.
