The Caspian Sea’s economic and strategic importance continues to grow. Major transport and energy routes cross the sea, and large international projects are being implemented.

The Operative Information Center-OMM reported that President Ilham Aliyev made the remarks while addressing the Caspian Environmental Summit in Turkmenbashi.

“Under these circumstances, it is fundamentally important to preserve the Caspian as a zone of peace, stability and constructive partnership. This serves the interests of all Caspian littoral states and creates the necessary conditions for the further development of our cooperation,” the head of state stressed.

The Caspian Sea is bordered by Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan. Cooperation among these countries is important for regional transport, energy and environmental issues.
