Azerbaijan will face Lithuania in its next match in Group 2 of League D of the UEFA Nations League. Ahead of the game, head coach Ayxan Abbasov described the opponents as a determined team.
“We know each other well by now. We will play our fourth match in a short period. Unfortunately, we could not win our last game. We spoke with the players, and we need to play better tomorrow. I believe in them,” Abbasov said.
According to the coach, the players were disappointed after the match against Liechtenstein. He said he had urged the team to put that result behind them and put up a fight against Lithuania.
Abbasov stressed that playing for the national team brings considerable pressure and that some players need time to gain experience. The head coach said one game does not decide everything and that the team wants to finish top of the group.
Azerbaijan will host Lithuania at 5 p.m. on Oct. 4 at the 8th Kilometer settlement stadium.
The UEFA Nations League is an international competition for European national teams, organized in league-based divisions. Teams compete within their groups for promotion, relegation or the opportunity to advance, depending on their league and results.
