On February 19, a historically significant first stage of relocation was carried out to Khanabad village of the Khojaly district.
According to information provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the Restoration, Construction, and Management Service in Khankendi, Aghdara, and Khojaly districts, 38 families consisting of 154 people returned to Khanabad village in the initial phase.
Existing residential houses in the village have been fundamentally renovated. The settlement is provided with 24-hour continuous natural gas, electricity, and drinking water. The keys to the new apartments were presented to the residents during a ceremony held in Khojaly city. Sabuhi Gahramanov, Deputy Special Representative of the President, attended the ceremony and stated that all necessary infrastructure has been established in Khanabad village, with complex measures implemented to ensure sustainable settlement and employment for the population.
This process is an integral part of the "Great Return" program announced by President Ilham Aliyev. As the head of state has emphasized, life is being rapidly restored in the territories liberated from occupation. Following the liberation of these lands, Azerbaijan has launched large-scale reconstruction projects, including the "Smart Village" and "Smart City" concepts, aimed at transforming the Garabagh and East Zangazur economic regions into modern, sustainable living zones.
With this relocation to Khanabad village, the return of former internally displaced persons has now been ensured to one city and eight villages within the Khojaly district in total. The Great Return program remains a top national priority for Azerbaijan, focusing on the safe and dignified return of hundreds of thousands of citizens to their ancestral homes.
