Ukraine is prepared to halt strikes on Russian energy facilities if Russia stops targeting Ukraine’s energy sector, critical infrastructure and food exports, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Monday.
In a statement on the US social media platform "X", Zelenskyy said reciprocal de-escalation measures could follow if Russian attacks on those targets ended.
“Ukraine’s energy sector, critical infrastructure and our food exports must stop being targets for Russia, and this will lead to matching de-escalation steps on our part,” he said.
Ukraine ready to discuss proposal with partners
Zelenskyy said Kyiv was ready to discuss the issue with the United States and other partners on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
He added that Ukraine was in dialogue with US President Donald Trump and his administration, with proposals under consideration aimed at bringing peace closer.
“Solutions are possible. We are ready to work on this, and we will discuss it with our partners on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York,” Zelenskyy said.
Trump raised refinery strikes, Axios source says
His remarks came after Trump repeatedly raised the issue of Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries during a telephone conversation on September 20, according to a source cited by the Axios news website.
Zelenskyy and Trump agreed to meet in New York during the UN General Assembly. Zelenskyy said the meeting could have a significant impact on diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.
