A yellow alert has been issued regarding the expected windy weather conditions and sharp atmospheric changes in Azerbaijan scheduled for March 20.
The National Hydrometeorological Service informed the Operative Information Center-OMM that north-westerly winds are expected in Ganja, Kalbajar, Lachin, Zangilan, Fuzuli, Ganja, Dashkasan, Gadabay, Goranboy, Naftalan, Gazakh, Agstafa, Tovuz, Shirvan, Lerik, Yardimli, Yevlax, Mingachevir, Khizi, Shabran, Khachmaz, Guba, Gusar, Siyazan, and Gobustan. Wind speeds are projected to reach 13.9-20.7 m/s in accordance with the yellow warning level.
Starting from the western regions of Azerbaijan on March 20, weather conditions are expected to be intermittently rainy, with snowfall anticipated in mountainous areas. According to the National Hydrometeorological Service's report to the Operative Information Center-OMM, there is a high probability of intensified precipitation, lightning, and hail in specific locations. Due to the forecasted weather, water levels in rivers are expected to rise, with short-term flash floods possible in some mountain rivers.
The National Hydrometeorological Service of Azerbaijan regularly monitors atmospheric conditions to provide early warnings for natural phenomena. Yellow alerts signify potentially dangerous weather patterns, advising the public to remain cautious during outdoor activities and travel. Such seasonal shifts are characteristic of the region's diverse topography, where rapid cooling in high-altitude zones like the Lesser Caucasus and Greater Caucasus often leads to localized flooding and intense storms during the spring months.
