Police in Ontario, Canada, have charged a woman with 65 offences, including fraud and theft, over allegations that she stole from patients and staff at several healthcare facilities, according to the BBC.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) identified the suspect as Nassim Eronn, 34, from Burlington, located 56km south of Toronto.
Police said the investigation followed multiple reports of theft and fraud involving patients and staff at healthcare facilities. The incidents under investigation allegedly took place between February 2024 and as recently as last month, while the suspect worked at health centres across the province.
Charges and investigation
Eronn faces 34 counts of fraud under $5,000, 13 counts of theft under $5,000 and seven counts of disobeying a court order, police said. She is also charged with breach of trust and impersonation.
The OPP began investigating in May after receiving a theft report linked to Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in Orillia, about 130km north of Toronto. The inquiry was later expanded to other hospitals after further alleged incidents were identified.
“Multiple search warrants were executed where significant amounts of property were seized,” police said.
Five healthcare facilities involved
Investigators said it remains unclear what specific duties the suspect performed at the hospitals. They believe there may be additional victims and have urged members of the public to come forward after checking their financial records for suspicious transactions.
