Authorities have declared a state of emergency in Washoe County. The fire, which began northwest of Reno on August 22, has expanded to cover approximately 60 square kilometers and remains uncontained.
Officials report that erratic wind patterns are complicating firefighting efforts, allowing the flames to bypass containment lines and hindering access to high-intensity zones. Preliminary investigations suggest the blaze was ignited by human activity. To date, six individuals, including three first responders, have sustained injuries, and numerous residential properties have been damaged.
In response to the escalating threat, Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo has declared a state of emergency for the region and authorized the deployment of the state's National Guard to assist in containment operations. While 42,000 people have been ordered to evacuate, residents in neighboring areas, home to approximately 45,000 people, have been placed on high alert to prepare for potential evacuation.
