Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has stated that Hungary is assisting the United States in gaining a better understanding of the situation in Central Europe and the conflict in Ukraine, which could contribute to a peaceful resolution of the crisis.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing RIA Novosti, that Orban highlighted the importance of regional insight for American foreign policy. "Was this useful for the US? I think so. The most interesting part is whether we could help them. Since America is located far away, Central Europe is complex and difficult to understand; from there, they see the war from a completely different perspective. This is exactly where I am trying to help the Americans," Orban noted.
The Prime Minister added that he seeks to provide Washington with a different point of view so that the United States can make the right choices regarding a peaceful settlement. He emphasized that Hungary's proximity to the conflict zone provides a unique vantage point that is essential for navigating the geopolitical complexities of the region.
Since the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, Hungary has consistently advocated for a ceasefire and diplomatic negotiations, often positioning itself as a mediator between Western allies and other global powers. Under the leadership of US President Donald Trump, who assumed office in January 2025, there has been a renewed focus on diplomatic channels to address the ongoing crisis in Eastern Europe. Hungary's diplomatic efforts align with its broader strategy of ensuring regional stability and minimizing the economic impact of the war on Central European nations.
