US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee on Saturday called on Israeli authorities to prosecute and imprison those responsible for attacking American photojournalist Heidi Levine in the occupied West Bank, Anadolu Agency reported.
“Attacking a female photographer is a despicable act of terror carried out by masked cowards,” Huckabee wrote on “X”.
“Those who attacked an unarmed reporter should spend (years) in prison,” he said. He added that the US had called for a full investigation, the arrest of those involved and prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.
Huckabee said Levine had suffered “serious injuries from vicious & cowardly attack” and described her as a US citizen who had clear identification as a journalist.
The US State Department said on Friday that it was “greatly concerned” about the attack on Levine by Israeli occupiers in the occupied West Bank.
“The Department of State is aware of these reports. We are greatly concerned when any American is harmed overseas and stand ready to provide all appropriate consular assistance,” a State Department spokesman said in an emailed statement to Anadolu.
