Unsettled weather to hit Azerbaijan with heavy rain and snow

Weather conditions in Azerbaijan are expected to change significantly, with intermittent precipitation forecast across various regions from the afternoon of May 15 until the evening of May 18, starting from the northern and western districts.

According to the National Hydrometeorological Service, as reported by the Operative Information Center-OMM, the weather will be characterized by short-term intensive rain, thunderstorms, and hail in specific areas. In high-altitude mountainous territories, the precipitation is expected to transition into snow.

Due to the predicted rainfall, water levels in local rivers are anticipated to rise. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of short-term flash floods and mudflows in several mountain rivers. Residents and travelers in these regions are advised to exercise caution as the unstable weather patterns may impact transportation and outdoor activities.

Azerbaijan's diverse topography often leads to rapid weather shifts during the spring months. The National Hydrometeorological Service regularly monitors these atmospheric changes to provide timely warnings for the agricultural sector and civil defense agencies, ensuring preparedness against natural phenomena such as hail and flooding which are common in the Greater and Lesser Caucasus ranges.
