The United Nations has extended its congratulations to Azerbaijan for the successful organization and hosting of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku. Speaking at an event titled "Strategic Environmental Assessment as a Tool for Achieving Climate Goals in Urban Planning" held within the framework of the forum, Dmitry Mariyasin, Deputy Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), emphasized Azerbaijan's leadership in addressing global urban challenges.

"In such a complex and difficult world, Azerbaijan sets an example by bringing vital issues to the forefront: prioritizing green development, promoting sustainable cities, and ensuring that we make informed decisions for our future and the future of our children," Mariyasin stated. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the UN official noted that WUF13 represents a significant initiative and stands as the largest session in the history of the forum. He further highlighted that Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is a critical yet under-reported tool for ensuring long-term stability and competitiveness in national development.

The World Urban Forum, established by the United Nations in 2001, is the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization. The hosting of WUF13 in Baku underscores Azerbaijan's growing role as a hub for international diplomacy and its commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By integrating climate goals into urban planning, Azerbaijan continues to demonstrate its strategic focus on transforming urban environments into resilient, eco-friendly spaces, following its successful hosting of other major international summits like COP29.
