Two major road infrastructure projects are planned in Khirdalan under the 2025–2030 State Program for Improving Transport Infrastructure in Baku and surrounding areas. The projects aim to ease traffic congestion, improve movement within the city and expand access to major highways.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports this, citing the Azerbaijan State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads.
According to the information, both projects form part of the 24 road projects included in the State Program.
The railway line running through Khirdalan currently divides the city into two parts. The limited number of existing crossings forces drivers to travel longer distances, contributes to congestion on some streets and restricts access to the M-1 and M-4 highways.
The first project includes the construction of a new tunnel and connecting roads, as well as the reorganization of existing roads and interchanges. It will expand transport links between Khirdalan and the M-1 and M-4 highways and create additional routes between different parts of the city.
The second project will establish a direct transport link from the M-4 highway to central Khirdalan. Plans include building a new tunnel and a grade-separated road crossing along this route.
Together, the complementary projects will create alternative connections between Khirdalan’s local road network and major highways.
This will reduce the need for drivers to take longer routes, allow traffic to be distributed across different directions and help ease congestion on the city’s internal streets.
The projects aim to make daily travel easier for Khirdalan residents, improve convenience and safety, and develop the city’s transport infrastructure in line with modern requirements.
