On the sixth day of the World Judo Championships in Baku, medals were contested in the men’s 100-kilogram and women’s 78-kilogram categories. Georgia’s Ilya Sulamanidze and Yelizaveta Litvinenko, representing the United Arab Emirates, became world champions.
Zelim Kotsoyev, Azerbaijan’s only judoka competing that day, lost to Russia’s Arman Adamyan in the round of 16. The bout went into extra time. Despite protests from Kotsoyev and his coach, the judges did not overturn the yuko score awarded for Adamyan’s technique. Adamyan later lost in the semifinal and in the bout for bronze, missing out on a medal.
