British police arrested two demonstrators on Sunday during a pro-Palestine protest outside the ruling Labour Party’s annual conference in Liverpool.
According to the report, protesters gathered outside the conference venue, with several displaying homemade signs in support of “Palestine Action”, a group banned by the UK government.
Officers first moved to arrest an elderly man sitting beneath a tree. A second protester was later arrested while holding a sign supporting the banned organisation.
Organisers call for ban to be lifted
Defend Our Juries, which organised the protest, said it had hoped new Prime Minister Andy Burnham “would do the sensible thing and bin the ban on Palestine Action” amid public pressure and the growing resources required to enforce it.
Casualties reported in Gaza
Nearly 74,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 175,000 wounded in Israel’s military offensive in Gaza since 2023, according to the report. The campaign has also destroyed about 90% of the enclave’s infrastructure.
Although a ceasefire took effect last October, the Israeli army has continued daily attacks in Gaza, killing more than 1,400 Palestinians and injuring about 5,000, Gaza’s Health Ministry said.
In November 2024, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip.
