Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has sent a congratulatory letter to President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of Azerbaijan's Independence Day.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the letter expressed pride in Azerbaijan's growing regional and international influence under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev. Erdogan emphasized that the deep-rooted brotherhood and solidarity between Turkey and Azerbaijan, based on National Leader Heydar Aliyev's "One nation, two states" principle, continue to strengthen daily. The Turkish President also highlighted the positive impact of this bilateral cooperation on the wider Turkic world, particularly under the umbrella of the Organization of Turkic States.
Azerbaijan celebrates its Independence Day on May 28, marking the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in 1918, the first secular democratic republic in the Muslim world. Relations between Baku and Ankara were elevated to an official alliance with the signing of the Shusha Declaration in 2021, reinforcing their strategic partnership in defense, economy, and regional security.
