US President Donald Trump said Ukraine and Russia had agreed to an “energy ceasefire” in their war, according to the BBC.
Trump provided few details, saying only that the agreement was “effective immediately”. Neither Kyiv nor Moscow had commented at the time of the report. The BBC said it had asked the White House for further information.
Trump has urged Ukraine to stop strikes on Russian oil infrastructure. Kyiv says the attacks are important for limiting revenue that supports Moscow’s war effort.
Earlier on Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he was willing to halt the strikes if Russia stopped targeting Ukrainian energy infrastructure. The BBC reported that such attacks had been intensifying ahead of winter.
