US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that people who disclosed the timing of a planned strike on Iran “should be shot,” claiming the leak led him to call off the operation.
“Leakers should be, in my opinion, leakers should be shot. In the old days, we used to shoot leakers,” Trump told a rally in Arizona.
He said B-2 stealth bombers had been sent “to make sure that they don’t have a nuclear weapon” and claimed Iran was waiting for them.
Trump said the planned departure and arrival times had been leaked to “The New York Times” and “CNN.” He added that the person responsible should go to prison and be shot.
According to Trump, the raid went ahead two days later at the same time. “That was the only time that they didn’t expect us,” he said.
He called leakers “the scum of the earth” and said they “should be dealt with very, very strongly.”
