US President Donald Trump remains committed to reaching an agreement regarding Greenland, and currently represents a "perfect time" to engage in formal negotiations.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Kevin Hassett, White House Economic Advisor and Director of the National Economic Council, made these remarks during an appearance on Fox News' "Sunday Briefing" program. Hassett emphasized that it is time to move past rhetoric and convene at the negotiating table to discuss the strategic territory.
"Now is the time for common sense to prevail and to see that by negotiating, the best deal for everyone can be achieved," Hassett stated during the interview. He further noted that while he was not aware of the specific legal frameworks regarding the potential application of tariffs on European countries, such economic measures could serve as a tool to encourage European partners to reach a consensus.
The proposal regarding Greenland reflects US President Donald Trump's long-standing interest in the island's strategic and economic potential. Greenland, an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, holds significant geopolitical importance due to its location in the Arctic, its vast natural resources, and its role in global maritime security. This renewed focus on the island aligns with broader US efforts to strengthen its presence in the Arctic region and secure critical supply chains.
