Workers stranded in Samaria Gorge
Eight workers remain unable to leave the Samaria Gorge in western Crete, a popular tourist attraction, after floodwaters covered the trail. The group consists of six employees of Greece’s Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency and two forest rangers.
They entered the area on Sept. 29 and are stranded about 4.3 miles from the entrance, according to the report. Deteriorating conditions have prevented them from leaving.
Closures and ferry cancellations
Authorities issued an emergency alert as severe weather brought strong winds and flooding, leading to road and school closures. Heavy rain flooded homes and covered roads with debris, while strong winds forced ferry cancellations.
