Sri Lanka sentences 15 convicts to up to 260 years over 2019 Easter attacks

Sri Lanka has sentenced 15 convicts to prison terms ranging from 200 to 260 years over the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks, according to the Daily Mirror newspaper.

Mohamed Ibrahim Mohamed Naufer, also known as Naufer Moulavi, was sentenced to 220 years in prison. Four other defendants received the same sentence.

Four defendants were sentenced to 240 years each, while five received terms of 200 years. One defendant was handed a 260-year sentence.

Final judgment in Easter attacks trial

The verdict was delivered by a three-member High Court Trial-at-Bar comprising Justices Navaratne Marasinghe, Ramanathan Kannan and Sujeewa Nishshanka.

The court also ordered the confiscation of the properties belonging to all 15 defendants.

The ruling represents the final judgment in the trial connected to the attacks.

Eight explosions killed at least 250 people

Eight explosions struck locations in and outside Sri Lanka’s capital, Colombo, on April 21, 2019, Easter Sunday. At least 250 people were killed in the attacks.
