The teams had previously met only once. South Korea won their 2014 friendly 3-1.
At the 2026 FIFA World Cup, South Korea failed to advance from the group stage. Venezuela did not qualify for the tournament’s final stage after being eliminated in the qualifying round. The World Cup is the sport’s premier international tournament, held every four years.
