The President of the Republic of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has sent a congratulatory letter to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, on the occasion of Azerbaijan's Independence Day.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the letter reads: "Mr. President, I am pleased to convey my warmest congratulations on your country's national holiday – Independence Day. I wish you and the friendly people of Azerbaijan continuous prosperity and progress. Taking this pleasant opportunity, I once again emphasize my readiness to work with you to strengthen friendly relations between our countries."
Azerbaijan celebrates Independence Day on May 28, commemorating the founding of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in 1918, which was the first secular democratic republic in the Muslim world. Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Senegal were established in 1996, and the two countries continue to develop bilateral ties and cooperate within international frameworks, including the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
