Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said Wednesday that the “Mecca Defense Alliance” formed with Türkiye and Pakistan aims to strengthen regional stability and protect the region from the effects of tensions and conflicts.
He made the remarks, according to the source, while delivering the annual royal address on behalf of King Salman bin Abdulaziz at the opening of the third year of the ninth session of Saudi Arabia’s Shura Council.
“To strengthen regional stability, shield it from the repercussions of tensions and conflicts, and coordinate efforts, the Mecca Defense Alliance was established between the kingdom, Türkiye and Pakistan,” the crown prince said.
Saudi Arabia vows to defend Gulf security
Mohammed bin Salman said attacks targeting Gulf Cooperation Council countries showed that security and stability in the Gulf were “indivisible.”
He said Saudi Arabia was working with its fellow GCC members to protect them, while making every possible effort to reduce tensions without compromising its own security.
“We will not hesitate to respond firmly to any threat or attack aimed at undermining our security,” he said.
Maritime coalition and energy crisis
The crown prince also announced the establishment of a “multinational defensive maritime coalition” aimed at strengthening maritime security and protecting shared interests on international waterways.
He rejected the use of international waterways as a means of exerting political or economic pressure.
Mohammed bin Salman warned that the world was facing an energy crisis “open to all possibilities.”
Saudi criticism of Israel
The crown prince condemned what he called Israel’s “brutal attacks” against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and its “repeated violations” of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
He urged the international community and the Board of Peace to fulfil their roles in achieving a lasting political solution in Palestine.
