Saudi Arabia’s Strategic Political and Defense Committee of the Mecca Alliance has agreed to activate collective deterrence measures in response to recent Houthi attacks, Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman said on Monday.
“The committee agreed to activate collective deterrence measures within the framework of the Alliance in response to the attacks and all those responsible for them,” bin Salman wrote on “X”, adding that the decision was made at an emergency meeting.
The committee also expressed solidarity with Riyadh over what bin Salman described as “heinous attacks” targeting the kingdom and holy sites on Saudi soil.
The Mecca Alliance was formed with Türkiye and Pakistan. The announcement comes amid renewed fighting in Yemen that has spilled into neighboring Saudi Arabia, with the Houthis launching drone and missile attacks targeting Saudi territory.
