Russian drone strike on Kherson monastery kills clergy member, Zelenskyy says

A Russian drone struck a men’s monastery in the Kherson region on Saturday, killing one clergy member and injuring four others, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday.

In a statement on “X”, Zelenskyy expressed condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed and injured in the attack.

Ukraine reports fresh attacks

The Ukrainian president said Russia had launched more than 2,000 attack drones, 1,700 guided aerial bombs and 19 missiles of various types against Ukraine during the past week.

He said the attacks had damaged civilian infrastructure and added that Ukraine was continuing to seek ways to protect its people and respond to the strikes.

Zelenskyy calls for stronger sanctions

“It is important that our partners also look for and find ways to make Russia feel its war,” Zelenskyy said.

He urged Ukraine’s partners to impose new sanctions on Moscow, saying stronger measures were needed to “enforce peace through strength”.

“The United States has the means to do this, Europe has them, and so does every G7 country. We are counting on new, strong steps,” he said.
